Do you want to be part of a strategic team focused on innovation and excellence?  Join the Actuarial Service Center (ASC)!  The ASC partners with client teams across North America to deliver client value through technical expertise, operational excellence, innovation, and efficiency. 

As a Retirement Project Leader, you will apply your technical and project management skills to lead a variety of projects for defined benefit, defined contribution, and post-retirement benefit plans. Given the size and complexity of our client portfolio, you will have the opportunity to work on diverse projects such as annual actuarial funding and accounting valuations, corporate reporting and disclosure filings, government forms and a wide range of special projects such as forecasting, non-discrimination testing, experience studies and accounting for special events.       

The Role

As a Retirement Project Leader, you will manage the execution of core valuation and special project work, which includes technical review of projects and mentoring junior colleagues. Key objectives include:
  • Serve as the project manager and primary contact to client teams for delivery of retirement and actuarial services
    • Coordinate with the Lead Actuary to ensure integrated Consulting and Service Center team
    • Schedule and manage weekly/bi-weekly status meeting calls
    • Ensure appropriate and effective communication among team members
    • Deliver on projects to meet or exceed client expectations
  • Manage project plan, staffing and financials for valuations and special projects
    • Create and manage project plans
    • Monitor progress of the team to deadlines, budget and quality standards
  • Develop and execute efficient processes
    • Implement standardized tools and processes
    • Identify opportunities to enhance quality and/or improve processes
    • Contribute to the development of new tools and approaches
  • Manage and develop teams for medium to large clients
    • Coordinate workflow across teams to ensure well planned process and high-quality work product
    • Engage and support the development of team members through growth assignments
    • Mentor and serve as a technical resource for junior colleagues
    • Delegate work and leverage appropriately, including integration of offshore resources
  • Perform technical review of complex work products and communicate results to the team
  • May serve as a people manager if interested and has the ability to do so

The Requirements
  • 5+ years’ experience conducting core valuation work in a client-service oriented environment with corporate defined benefit plans; defined contribution plan experience a plus
  • Proven experience managing multiple projects within prescribed project guidelines
  • Strong interpersonal and team skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to ask the right questions and seek help where appropriate
  • Ability to respond to all communications effectively and in a timely manner
  • Flexibility and proven ability to diagnose and resolve issues; strong client service orientation
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities
  • Ability to work both independently and on teams and enjoy a fast-paced environment
  • Sense of accountability; owning one’s work and taking pride in it
  • Self-starter; interest in continually challenging oneself and willingness to step outside of one’s comfort zone
  • Interest and ability to think beyond the task at hand and understand how one’s work fits into the broader landscape
  • Strong analytical and integrative skills including ability to draw conclusions and identify trends from data in a logical, systematic way
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills, particularly in Access and Excel
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Proven experience effectively managing people
  • Ability to coordinate global resources
